Comparative analysis and research on three frequency testing methods for quartz crystal resonators

Abstract: The traditional methods for testing the frequency of quartz crystal resonators include indirect calculation method, signal source oscillation method, and network analyzer method, each of which has significant shortcomings. This article proposes three new testing methods based on the frequency characteristics of quartz crystal resonators: oscilloscope testing method, frequency meter testing method, and spectrograph testing method. These three methods differ in basic testing principles, equipment configuration requirements, testing accuracy, and applicable environments. This article provides a detailed comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of these three methods, and proposes selection suggestions for different application conditions. If only the frequency of quartz crystal resonators needs to be measured, the spectrograph testing method can be used. If it is necessary to measure the frequency and know the characteristics of the frequency, it is advisable to use the frequency meter testing method. The testing rules of oscilloscopes can be used for rough measurement of the qualitative frequency of quartz crystal resonators. In addition, the possibility of instrument collaboration testing has been explored based on their respective advantages.
